Municipal Court
Mission Statement
We are an independent branch of government constitutionally entrusted with the fair and just resolution of disputes in order to preserve the rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and the laws of the United States and this state.
What we prosecute?
The Municipal Court has jurisdiction over all motor vehicle matters, parking tickets, fish and game laws, code enforcement and minor offenses such disorderly persons, simple assault, harassment, shoplifting, criminal mischief and all municipal ordinances.

The Orange Municipal Court is located at 29 N. Park Street in Orange, New Jersey.
- What are your Court dates?

Orange Municipal Court meets every Monday at 12:30 p.m., every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m., every Thursday at 10:30 a.m., and every Friday at 9:30 a.m.
- What are your Violations Bureau hours?

The Violations Bureau is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The phone number for the Orange Municipal Court is (973) 952-6315 and the fax is (862) 766-5294. You can reach us between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- How can I pay my ticket?

You can pay your ticket in one of three ways:
1. Visit the violations bureau located 29 N Park Street, Orange, NJ 07050.
2. Mail a certified check or money order with a copy of your ticket to the Violations Bureau using the same address (above).
3. Pay your ticket Online.
- How much is my ticket?

If your ticket is checked "Court Appearance Required" or the penalty amount is not listed at the bottom of your ticket you must appear in Court on the dates listed on the complaint. You may also check the amount by visiting the website listed on the back of the ticket. It will tell you if you need to appear in Court or can just pay the ticket.
- How do I plead not guilty?

If your ticket is not marked "Court Appearance Required", you may enter your plea of "Not Guilty" by either calling the Court at (973) 952-6315 or appearing at the Violations Bureau. Court staff will then schedule your case for a conference or a trial date depending on the charge.
- How do I request a new Court date?

Once you are assigned a court date, all requests for adjournments must be made in writing to the Judge. Adjournment requests can be mailed to Orange Municipal Court 29 Park St. Orange, NJ 07050, faxed to (862) 766-5294 or brought to the Violations Bureau. Your adjournment is not automatically granted by sending a letter. The Judge will review the letter and has ultimate discretion on whether a new court date will be granted.
- How can I get an attorney?

For certain charges with consequences of magnitude such as (fines of $500 or more, loss of driving privilege, or incarceration) you may be eligible for the Public Defender if you are financially indigent. Judge will make the final decision on granting the Public Defender. If you can afford your own attorney, you can call either the Essex County Bar Association or the New Jersey Bar Association for referral. Court staff cannot recommend an attorney for you.
